Chris Magerl was the front man and lead singer of the Austrian powerpop band Once Tasted Life.
With his band before Once Tasted Life, a hardcore band called Sick Of Silence Chris Magerl had been successfully on tour across Canada and Europe. In 2002 the British magazine KERRANG! wrote “Their brand of politically aware, animal rights-evangelising throat- shredding hardcore is possibly the most interesting thing in Austrian music right now.“
Shortly after the split up of Sick Of Silence Chris Magerl was already on tour again with his new band, Once Tasted Life. They played countries all over Europe and in 2003 performed at the biggest music festival in Europe, the Sziget festival in Budapest, Hungary. This new band not only meant new shows but also the possibility to go new ways musically far up from the genre of hardcore.
And once again the feedback was more than just positive, as a British Webzine wrote “If they were living over (…) and were touring them incessantly they’d be huge.“ The Austrian music magazine Slam claimed that Once Tasted Life were “a promise for the future”.
At his solo shows Chris Magerl plays new solo material as well as unique acoustic versions of some of the songs he wrote with Once Tasted Life. His music can be described as a bridge between very slow and melancholic tunes and energetic, rocking songs that lay the foundation for very poetic and picturesque lyrics that tell stories about people’s everyday lives.
